At 5:30 this morning Elijah decided that the time for sleep had past. It was now time to forge a new beginning and he seemed determined to see in the new day awake and alert. We were having none of that. The Sun wasn't even up yet, FFS.
Anyway, after Helen tried every trick she had to calm him, I sat up in bed and rocked him in my arms. While it shut him up almost straight away, it didn't put him to sleep at all. He continued to examine everything around him with a wide-eyed gaze.
After about 30 minutes of this, in desperation I took him into the study and turned on the computer. If I had to be awake, I was at least going to keep myself occupied. The little bugger fell asleep before Windows had even finished booting (which actually is several minutes - I don't know why my Win2k system takes so long to boot up and I'd welcome any suggestions on the matter). I've come to the conclusion that Elijah finds the hum of my noisy case fans soothing. I guess being too lazy to implement a more efficient silent cooling system has its benefits after all.
Of course, now I've only had 3 hours sleep all up. I guess I'll find the other 2 or 3 hours somewhere.
