Why is it so?

Why is it that, night after night, the only way I can get him to settle and go to sleep is in my arms, in front of the computer? He could have been asleep for an hour but as soon as we move him to put him down properly, he wakes right up and refuses to re-settle. It's got to the stage where I don't even bother with other techniques - I just fire up the computer, sit through ten minutes of crying and then wait for him to be asleep for half an hour before I can successfully put him down.

I know it's selfish and all but by God I need some sleep. I really could do without this nightly ritual. I f anyone is thinking "Just go to bed earlier...", it doesn't work. Any night we've tried to go to bed earlier, he hasn't settled properly since early evening and, once again, the only way to settle him is "the last resort" in front of the computer.

I bet Nanny never had this problem...
