Way back in February, I posted about how I had contributed a submission to an Inquiry into the Breastfeeding. The report was finally published in August and I was sent a hard copy for my troubles.
I read the entire report, scouring the footnotes for any mention of myself or the others I knew who also made submissions. Twice I counted my name in the footnotes, which made the time and effort it took to write my submission all the more worthwhile. It made me feel as though I had a voice and that it had been heard.
If you'd like to read the report, it is available as a chapter by chapter download or as a complete document download. Warning: My hard copy is 170 pages, so this is not light reading, but it is VERY interesting. There are a lot of anecdotal quotes spattered through the report, which I feel really illustrate the state of breastfeeding support (or lack thereof) here in Australia.
The committee listed 22 recommendations. We can only hope that the government now sees fit to implement them.
