Blue up there...
As promised, video of Elijah learning the concepts of up there, down there and in the middle. The video quality is pretty shonky (it's filmed on my mobile phone) and the sound quality is dubious as well. Don't forget to turn your computer's volume down when you've finished watching!

The real Bugalugs?
It's probably common knowledge to most of you that Elijah's nickname is "Bugalugs". Sometimes we shorten it to "Bugs". Daddy has called Elijah this since birth and I eventually caught on a while later. We always assumed that Elijah knew that he was a Bugalugs.
Well, we all know what happens to people who assume...
Apparently, according to Elijah, a Bugalugs is actually a dust mite. He sees the dust mites floating in the air, illuminated by the morning sun streaming in through the laundry window. He loves to try to catch them. "There's a Bugalugs!" he says. "I catch a Bugalugs." This freaks me out a little, since Doctor Who said that these dust mites are actually
Vashta Nerada, but Elijah obviously didn't see that episode.
Still, it's cute to watch him jump as high as he can, chasing them in the light of the morning. There's something very innocent about it all.

How are you?
When I come home from work, I'm usually greeted with an excited "Daddy's home!" as Bugs runs down the hallway to greet me. My normal response is a variation of "Hello Bugs, how are you?"
This evening Mummy was playing a very loud game with Bugs so I snuck in the back door without him realising I was home. I waited behind him on bended knee to give him a big cuddle just as soon as he discovered I was there.
Elijah was excited when I gave him a big hug before he could even say a word. He pushed away from his cuddle and said "Daddy get up" with a serious look on his face. As I stood, a cheeky smile sprung to life on his face as he cried out "How are you?"
I guess sometimes it's fun to beat Daddy at his own game sometimes.

Colours of the park
This is part of the equipment at the local park:

This morning, Elijah and I went to play at the park. Instead of his usual first port of call, the slide, he went straight to this naughts and crosses board. Imagine my surprise when he pointed to the right-hand column and said, "There's a red one up there. There's a blue one in the middle. There's a green one down there." He then proceeded to do the same thing with the other two columns. You can see him pointing to each colour as he names it in the photo below. The fact he knew his colours didn't surprise me. The fact he knew up and down didn't surprise me. The fact that he could connect these concepts as well as understand and apply the concept of "middle" was what blew me away.

It turns out that the concept of "middle" was taught to him yesterday by Daddy while I was in Sydney, filming. Connecting all these elements was yesterday's lesson. Apparently he picked it up very quickly, which doesn't surprise me at all. It generally only takes one or two times and he remembers and understands it.

We're going on a Dragon hunt!
Melli has been looking for dragons, so I thought I'd help her out. This one is Elijah's pet dragon, named (very originally) Dragon. It likes music, which is why it's sitting on the piano. You can just see the blue quaver on its belly. When you press the quaver, it plays the opening of Mozart's
Piano Sonata No. 16 in C major K545.
Seeing as Elijah can almost play
Chopsticks on the piano (calling it The Pretty Song), I might introduce him to how K545 sounds when actually played on the piano.

Sneaky creature
Yesterday, Elijah sneaked out of his room after his nap without my realising he had awoken.
Guess where I found him?

Yes, that's our loungeroom. He had bed hair and Beatrix Potter book in hand.

He wasn't too upset when he realised he'd been sprung!

For all those complaining that Elijah needed a haircut, here's proof that he has had his first haircut:

I could only bear to cut the underneath layers at the back as they were the ones getting caught in his clothes and bibs. I actually cut his hair on July 22nd, but kept forgetting to post it! As for the front and sides, well, I guess I'll eventually get around to those bits. It's alright, it's only hair.
And for my mother, I have proof that you didn't cut
my hair until I was 2 years and 4 months old. July 22nd makes it 2 years, 3 months, 1 week and 1 day.

Jump, Jump, Jump if you feel you want to!
Elijah would often say, "Look, I jumping!" when clearly, he was just running on the spot, albeit while really picking his feet high off the ground.
The last few days, he's been really working on his jumping and as he's practised, he's managed to get more and more airtime. He's been getting closer to getting both feet off the ground at the same time and closer to getting both feet to land at the same time.
Tonight, he did it! Both feet left the ground and landed at the same time. There was much celebrating!

More art
Elijah really likes markers. Markers on paper appear to be his favourite medium so far. This one is very different to his last posted effort.

Toys are so passe
Once again, the recycling pile produces playthings infinitely more interesting than any of Elijah's purpose-bought toys. This is a bit of a recurring theme...
The latest: a box formerly containing CDs shipped from Canada.

So putting a box on your head is fun, but putting a box on Mummy's head is the height of hilarity.
