Lost in translation

Elijah walked up to me with one eye clamped tightly shut and the other, only barely open. "I have a slow wink," he said.

I laughed. He giggled, knowing that he'd achieved his aim. Then he clarified: "I have a slow wink, like McBean!"

I lost it completely. Sylvester McMonkey McBean (from The Sneetches by Dr Seuss) has a very sly wink. Maybe I need to work on my enunciation.

LOL! It likely isn't your pronunciation. He is just trying to make sense of what you read, based on what he knows. He still hasn't identified "sly" in his vocabulary.

I think you're right there. Daddy was trying to explain "sly" to Elijah yesterday and now he gets that they are two different words.
